Your house already has a group chat, and it is where the admin goes to die

The chat is where the house actually lives. Plans, complaints, a photo of whatever has appeared in the fridge. It is also where the rent reminder gets posted at 9pm on a Tuesday and scrolls out of sight by Wednesday.

So one person ends up holding all of it. They remember whose turn the bins are. They screenshot the power bill again. They ask the same housemate for the same forty dollars a third time. Nobody appointed them. They just cared first.

How it works in iMessage

  1. Add Homerun to the house chat

Homerun joins the group chat as a contact, the same way a housemate would. Nothing to install, and nobody has to create an account before it starts being useful.

  2. Tell it about the house

Who lives there, what the rent is, when the bills land. You type it in plain words and the assistant asks for anything it still needs.

  3. Let it do the chasing

The assistant posts the reminders, keeps the tally of who has paid and rotates the chore roster, so nobody in the house has to be the one who asks.

What the assistant handles

  • Splits the rent

Homerun works out each housemate's share of the rent and posts it before it is due, so the split is settled in the chat instead of in one person's head.

  • Chases the bills

Homerun tracks which housemates have paid a bill and nudges the ones who have not, so whoever paid it is not also the one chasing it.

  • Runs the chore roster

Homerun rotates jobs between housemates so the same person is not always on bins, and reminds whoever is up that week.

  • Remembers bin night

Homerun posts the right bin on the right night to the house, every week, without anyone having to keep the council calendar in their head.

  • Keeps the shared shopping list

Any housemate can add to the house shopping list by message, and Homerun keeps the record so the cost can be settled later.

  • Answers who owes what

Ask Homerun who owes what and it replies with a running tally the whole house can see, rather than four people comparing bank apps.

What the house sees

  • The Homerun assistant open in the app, greeting the housemate and offering example questions: who is behind on rent, draft a message to the landlord, are we overpaying for gas

Ask it anything about the house

  • The Homerun app split screen: what the house owes you, a simplified balance per housemate with a remind button beside each, and the recent settle-up activity

    Who owes what

Screens from the Homerun app. Names and figures are examples.

From houses that were running on a group chat

  • We had a group chat and a running argument. Now the chat just tells us who owes what, and nobody has to be the one who brings it up.

  • I had tried three apps and could never get all five of us to download any of them. This one is just in the chat we already had.

Dan O.Sharehouse of 5, West End
  • The spreadsheet died about eight months into the lease. This has not, because nobody has to keep it alive.

Common questions

Does Homerun work in iMessage?

Yes. Add Homerun to your house group chat in iMessage and it answers there. There is nothing to install and no account to create before you start.

What if my housemates are not all on iPhone?

Homerun also answers on WhatsApp, on +61 468 046 300, which runs on iPhone and Android. Houses on mixed phones usually run it there.

Do I need to download an app?

No. Homerun answers in your iMessage group chat. There is a Homerun app as well, and rent, bond, lease details and bank connections live there.

Does everything happen in the chat?

No. The day to day chasing happens in the chat: rent splits, bills, chores, bin night and the shopping list. Rent, bond, lease details and bank connections live in the Homerun app instead.

How much does Homerun cost?

Homerun is free during private beta, at AU$0. There is no charge for the assistant and nothing per message.

Does it work in a group chat with all my housemates?

Yes. Homerun sits in the house group chat, so the rent split, the bill tally and the chore roster are visible to everyone in it rather than to one person.

What is Homerun?
