In most sharehouses, one person is the bank
The lease has one name on it. Rent lands in that person's account, they pay the agent, and everybody else transfers their share and hopes. Nobody except the collector can see whether any of it worked.
It holds until it does not. Someone moves out mid quarter, or pays late twice, or remembers paying when they did not, and there is no record either side can point at. The argument is rarely about the money. It is about the fact that nobody wrote anything down.
